Basic Buttermilk Biscuits


2 cups (500 mL) Flour

1 tbsp (15 mL) Baking powder

1 tsp (5 mL) Salt Pinch Nutmeg

.5 cup (125 mL) Tenderflake® Lard

1 cup (250 mL) Buttermilk

.25 cup (60 mL) Melted butter

These Basic Buttermilk Biscuits are soft, buttery and sure to start your day off right. Serve with your favourite jam and enjoy!


PREHEAT oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking tray with parchment paper.

PLACE all ingredients into the bowl of a food processor except buttermilk. Pulse 2-3 times until a rough crumb forms. Slowly add buttermilk pulsing 4-5 times in the process or until dough holds together.

TRANSFER dough onto a lightly floured work surface and gently bring together with your hands. Roll or press dough to about 1 ½ inch (4 cm) thick. Using a 2 inch (5 cm) cookie cutter, cut out biscuits and place on prepared baking sheet.

BAKE in preheated oven for 12-15 minutes or until light brown in colour. Remove from oven and brush with melted butter before serving. Serve warm.
